2018 Sacred Images of Tibet
Author: Smith, Greg
For more than one thousand years, Tibetan thangka paintings have been used as teaching tools and meditation aids to assist practitioners in their awakening to enlightenment. These classic images of buddhas, lamas, and tantric deities open a sacred doorway into the world of Tibetan Buddhism. These vibrant thangkas were created by Greg Smith, a well-known sangha artist and thangka painter who studied with master artist Noedup Rongae at Naropa University in the mid 1970s. Smith, who paints in a style highly influenced by the Karma Gardri tradition, aspires to paint thangkas that, while traditional, speak to Western people in their own aesthetic language.
